STANDARD 01
Every product on our shelves is evaluated against these five questions. Here's exactly what we look for — and what a red flag looks like.
Where ingredients come from
Main macronutrient sources
Fat source and transparency
Preservatives, colors, flavours
Production model & recall history
What we look for in every product
Named country of origin, farm-direct or certified supplier, human-grade sourcing disclosed upfront
Named animal protein first (e.g. "Deboned Chicken"), whole food carbohydrate sources like sweet potato or lentils
Named fat sources: salmon oil, flaxseed oil, chicken fat — providing omega-3 and omega-6 balance
Naturally derived: mixed tocopherols (Vitamin E), rosemary extract, ascorbic acid as preservatives
Self-manufactured with owned facilities, or co-packed with fully disclosed facility — clean 10-year recall record
What gives us pause
Vague "imported ingredients," undisclosed suppliers, or refusal to share sourcing details
"Meat meal," generic by-product, corn syrup or refined grain fillers as primary ingredients
Generic "animal fat" with no named species, or low-quality plant oils as the sole fat source
Synthetic BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin, artificial colours (Red 40, Yellow 5), or "artificial flavour" listed
Unknown co-packer, undisclosed facility, or recall history with inadequate consumer communication
